Cold Weather Hazards
We know we are two very lucky kitties.  We have a warm, cozy home, good food on a regular schedule, daily treats, and lots of toys (and humans) to play with.  We understand that a few pets have to live outside this time of year, so we’d like to remind you of some seasonal concerns.
Be careful to contain your car’s antifreeze.  It is extremely toxic to pets but its sweet flavor makes it attractive.  Ingestion of antifreeze is a medical emergency.  Get your pet to a veterinarian immediately.
Use of ice melting products on your sidewalk and driveway can be hazardous for your pets.  These products can be irritating to your pet’s feet and, if it is swallowed as they lick their feet clean, it can cause gastointestinal upset.  We recommend using safe alternatives such as Safe Paw.
Dogs and cats that live outside in the winter need an increase in their daily calorie intake.  Increasing the amount of food they eat each day will help them maintain a constant body temperature.
Outdoor housing should provide shelter from the wind as well as the snow and rain.  Your pet needs warm, dry bedding and easy access to water.  Changing the water multiple times daily will help avoid freezing.
